Markets end lower for 3rd month in a row: Here’re best & worst of Nifty50

The benchmark Sensex and Nifty, as well as the broader market mid-cap and small-cap indices, posted their third consecutive monthly decline.

This is the longest monthly decline for the market since June 2022 and only the sixth occasion that the Sensex has fallen for three or more consecutive months. The Nifty has fallen nearly 8 per cent in the past three months amid a sharp sell-off in Adani Group shares, while the Nifty 100 is down nearly 10 per cent.

Domestic markets sharply underperformed global peers, with MSCI India down 11 per cent in three months, even as MSCI World and MSCI Emerging Markets remained flat. Had it not been for the buying of Rs 70,000 crore by domestic institutions, the market fall would have been sharper. Foreign funds have pulled out Rs 32,000 crore from domestic equities since December.
