New Delhi: The ‘Drishyam’ franchise, starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu, is slated to be remade for South Korean viewers with the official Korean version. ‘Drishyam’ is an Indian movie that has achieved success in all Indian languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi.

The official announcement was made on Sunday at the India Pavilion at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival 2023.

Panorama Studios, an Indian production firm, and Anthology Studios, created by former Warner Bros. Local Korean production head Jay Choi, ‘Parasite’ actor Song Kang-ho, and acclaimed filmmaker Kim Jee-woon, have collaborated on the Korean version.

The first half of ‘Drishyam,’ directed by the late Nishikant Kamat, is around Vijay Salgaonkar, whose uncomplicated life shatters after an unfortunate tragedy involving the members of his family and his desperate tactics to keep them out of trouble with the law. The movie was a big hit, thanks to applause-worthy performances from Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and Kamlesh Sawant.

“I’m excited that the ‘Drishyam’ franchise is being made in Korean, a first for a Hindi film,” said producer Kumar Mangat Pathak. This will not only broaden its appeal outside of India but will also put Hindi cinema on the international map. We’ve been inspired by Korean cinema for years, and now they’ve found a muse in one of our films. What could be a greater accomplishment for the Indian film industry?”

Jay Choi is also excited about the cooperation. “We are ecstatic to have the opportunity to recreate a massively successful Hindi film with a touch of uniqueness from Korean cinema,” he said.
