Widows of three martyrs of the Pulwama terror attack were detained from a protest site outside the residence of Congress MLA Sachin Pilot in the early hours of Friday and taken to the local police station.

Widows have been protesting outside the residence of former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot in Jaipur since February 28 for their demands.

Widows of Pulwama sought written assurance from Raj Government

Widows of Rajasthan’s CRPF jawans who were martyred in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack on Thursday sought a written assurance from the Ashok Gehlot government that their demands, including giving jobs to their relatives on compassionate ground, would be met so that their protest could end. The widows have demanded a change in the rules so that not only children but also their relatives can get government jobs on compassionate grounds.

CM Gehlot’s reaction

Responding to the demand, Gehlot asked on Twitter whether it would be “appropriate” to give jobs to other relatives of the martyred jawans instead of their children. “How can we justify giving a job to another relative by trampling on the rights of the martyr’s children? What will happen when the martyr’s children grow up? Is trampling on their rights justified?” He asked.

He also shared a screenshot of a statement in which he said that a widow is seeking a job for her husband’s brother (devar). The CM said that if the job is given to the brother of the martyred CRPF jawan, then the family members and relatives of all the widows may exert “undue” pressure to give jobs to other relatives, depriving the martyr’s children of the right to the job. ,

Gehlot also accused the state BJP leaders of “using the widows of the martyrs for their narrow political interests and thereby insulting them”.

In another tweet, he said, “BJP leaders had given wrong information to Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh. I have shared the facts with Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh ji and Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge ji.”

The widows also demanded construction of roads and installation of statues of martyrs in their villages. On Thursday, he sought a written assurance from the state government that his demands would be met.

One of the widows told reporters, “We want a written assurance from the government. The chief minister should meet us so that we can raise our issues before him. Also, action should be taken against the policemen who manhandled us.” ” The National Commission for Women took cognizance of the matter and asked the state DGP to probe the allegations of “misbehavior and assault” by the widows against the police officers.

“NCWIndia has taken cognizance. Chairperson @sharmarekha has written to DGP Rajasthan to personally look into the matter and inquire into the allegations of misbehavior and assault made by women against police officers. Detailed ATR NCW should be informed.” ,

BJP MP Kirori Lal Meen with the protesters

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena, who is staging a sit-in with the widows near Pilot’s residence, said he will continue to fight with them and will not return empty-handed.

“We will die, we will be ruined. But we will not return empty-handed. The chief minister should meet him,” Meena told reporters.

Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore said, ‘The governor is the constitutional head and he has written a letter to the CM. If they do not take it seriously then there is no bigger misfortune than this.
This shows the dogma of the CM. ,

On Wednesday, a four-member delegation of BJP leaders met the Governor and sought his intervention in the matter. A memorandum was also handed over to him. After this, the governor had written a letter to CM Gehlot asking him to consider the rules and resolve the matter. On Tuesday, two Rajasthan ministers Pratap Singh Khachariawas and Shakuntala Rawat met the widows and listened to their demands. Later the same day, Gehlot said in a tweet, “Some BJP leaders are insulting martyrs and taking political advantage. This has never been Rajasthan’s tradition. I condemn it.”

Widows of CRPF jawans are also demanding a meeting with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
