PATNA: The Munger police on Monday arrested the cop who had allegedly opened fire at a 26-year-old girl at a beauty parlour hours before her marriage on Sunday.
The accused was identified as Aman Kumar Gaurav, a constable posted at anti-riot wing of the state police in Patna. He is a resident of Munger district. Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), sadar, Rajesh Kumar, told TOI that Aman was arrested from Quila area in Munger.
“It has come to light that the girl and Aman hail from the same village. The incident was probably fallout of a one-sided love affair. Aman came to know about her wedding and reached Munger on May 18. He tried to talk to the girl, but failed. On Sunday evening, when the girl had gone to a beauty parlour to get ready for her wedding, Aman reached there and fired at her,” the SDPO added.
He said Aman also tried to kill himself, but the pistol malfunctioned. “The staff of the parlour tried to catch Aman. However, he managed to escape. Police recovered a country-made pistol and a cartridge from the beauty parlour,” the SDPO added.
