PATNA: Constituents of the state’s ruling Grand Alliance (GA) on Monday decided to stage protests against the BJP-led central government on June 15 over some of the burning issues facing the country, including price rise. The protests will be held in all the districts and blocks.
The GA has also decided to form a coordination committee for the smooth functioning of the alliance. The GA coordination committees will also be formed at district and block levels.
These decisions were taken at a meeting of GA partners at the office of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
The meeting was chaired by RJD state president Jagadanand Singh. Representatives of seven parties were present at the meeting, including JD(U), Congress, CPI(ML), CPI, CPM and HAM(S).
Talking to reporters after the meeting, JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha said the GA partners would hold protests on June 15 to highlight the failure of Narendra Modi-led central government on all fronts. “Unemployment, price rise, misuse of central agencies and non-fulfillment of several promises made by the BJP will also be highlighted,” he added.
Kushwaha cited several data pointing towards the price rise and said, “LPG cylinder, which was available at around Rs 412, is now being sold at Rs 1,200. Prices of wheat, rice, salt and milk have also increased manifold. Unemployment has also touched a new high in the country,” he added.
Another RJD leader said the need for a coordination committee was felt for proper functioning of the alliance. “While we sit together in Patna and hold such meetings, we felt that a similar meetings should be held at the ground level also,” he said.
