PATNA: The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow warning as seven districts across the state witnessed heatwave on Sunday. Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in several parts of south Bihar, including Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur, Khagaria, Nawada and Kaimur on Monday.
According to the Patna Met Centre’s evening bulletin, Aurangabad recorded the highest maximum temperature of 44.3 degrees C on Sunday. Dehri in Rohtas closely followed with a mercury surge up to 43.8 degrees C while Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees C.
The ‘feel-like’ temperature crossed 45 degrees C in 16 districts of Bihar on Sunday, with Bhagalpur registering a ‘feel-like temperature’ of a scorching 52.74 degrees C, followed by Motihari at 51.17 degrees C. Patna recorded a ‘feel-like’ temperature of 45.60 degrees C.
The forecast indicates no significant changes in weather conditions over the next 24 hours. However, some relief is expected in the subsequent three days, with a fall in temperature predicted by 2 to 3 notches.
Isolated areas in north Bihar are likely to witness thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40kmph on Tuesday. Similar weather conditions are expected across the state on Wednesday and Thursday.
“The heatwave conditions in south Bihar will be abated by Tuesday. Patna may witness light rainfall on May 25 and 26,” said Ashish Kumar Singh, a scientist at Patna Meteorological Centre. “There will be an enhancement in rainfall and thunderstorm activities on Wednesday and Thursday. They will mostly be concentrated over the northern parts of the state. However, isolated areas in south Bihar will also experience such weather conditions,” he added.
