PATNA: Patna district magistrate (DM) Chandrashekhar Singh on Saturday ordered the officers concerned to launch a drive against gender-based violence, respond and provide help to victims in the need and also take action against the guilty persons.
Presiding over a meeting of Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC), he said domestic violence, torture for dowry, exploitation at work places and child marriage were some of the important issues warranting the need for immediate action. “Over a thousand victims of such violence have been provided relief from January, 2021 till date in the district. The OSCs running under the department of social welfare department has been committed to serve the suffering women,” he said.
The DM directed officers of the integrated child development scheme (ICDCs) to hold meetings at places of women’s working and arrange orientation programmes. He said the OSCs came to women’s help by providing medical aid, psychological counselling, temporary stay and legal advice to the sufferers.
Education and women’s empowerment could also help a women living with respect and dignity at all places. “The objectives of OSC are to help women falling victims of violence within their families, workplace or public places, and all stakeholders should come forward to save them from any such harassment,” he said.
