Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has given a big statement about a veteran of Indian cricket. Considered to be one of the fastest bowlers to have played international cricket, Akhtar is often in the news for his comments and comments on issues related to Pakistan and world cricket. However, this time they have claimed it for an Indian legend who represented the Men in Blue during his playing days.
Interestingly, Akhtar made this claim when he was trying to make a point about current Indian cricket star Virat Kohli. Popularly known as Rawalpindi Express, the 47-year-old shared his views on Sachin Tendulkar and said that while the latter was the best batsman in the world, he was lost as a captain.
“Look, I believe Sachin Tendulkar is the best batsman in the world. But as a captain, he lost. He himself gave up the captaincy. I was talking to a friend about Virat Kohli , and we were discussing the same thing.” He was defeated and will perform when he sets his mind to it.
He was full of praise for Kohli and said that at one stage the batsman’s hundreds had single-handedly helped his team win.
“You also need to see that almost 40 of Kohli’s centuries have come in run chases. People tell me that you admire Virat Kohli a lot. I just say, why shouldn’t I? During one phase India used to win because of Virat’s century,” he said.
Even though Akhtar has praised the former Indian skipper, Kohli has not been at his best in Test match cricket. Even in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he is yet to score a half-century. However, it should also be noted that this series has been quite a challenge with the bat, but Kohli’s last hundred in the purest format of the game came way back in 2019.
Knowing his class and stature, the cricket fraternity is waiting with bated breath to see him win in the lean phase just like in limited overs cricket.
