The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is here to stay. The tournament has already seen some great cricket matches, which have seen great contests between bat and ball. Even the fielding effort has been good in this league barring a few exceptions.
One such top-notch performance on the field was witnessed during the top-of-the-table encounter between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. With just 105 runs on the board and Mumbai taking a flight, it was unlikely that Delhi were going to make a match out of this game, but Jemimah Rodrigues’ effort to take a catch nonetheless makes it all the more special.
It happened in the 12th over of Mumbai’s target and the team had recently lost Yastika Bhatia. The over was being delivered by Ellis Capse and on the third ball Hayley Mathews looked to hit a slog out of the ground but only managed to send it miles in the year. Sensing a wicket-taking opportunity, Rodrigues dived from long off and completed the catch.
Aakash Chopra, who was on air in Hindi commentary, called it an early contender for the catch of the tournament and the official handle of the tournament also shared the video of DC Start’s attempt.

As far as the match is concerned, MI eventually defeated DC by 8 wickets to complete the hat-trick of wins. The win meant they are now the only team in the competition to remain unbeaten, while Delhi suffered their first defeat in three matches.
