Mumbai Indians continue to dominate the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League. After winning the first two matches of the competition, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side continued their fine run in the T20 competition and completed a hat-trick as they defeated Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. After being asked to bowl first, Mumbai impressed with their clinical performance with the ball first as Purple Cap holder Sayka Ishaq continued her fine form in the tournament, returning figures of 3 for 13. Issy Wong and Hayley Mathews also took 3 wickets for 10 and 19 runs respectively to bundle out Delhi for 105 runs.
In reply, Yastika Bhatia and Mathews got Mumbai flying a bit as the Women in Blue put on 65 before losing their first wicket in the 9th over as Bhatia fell to Tara Norris for 41 off 32 balls. Later, Mathews also took a brilliant catch in the deep by Jemimah Rodrigues off Ellis Capse, but it was too late as Mumbai sealed the victory with 30 balls to spare.
The result means Mumbai are now the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far and they continue to top the table with a 100 per cent win rate and a net run rate of +4.228. There is no change in Delhi’s position as well but they missed the chance to displace MI from the top of the table. He is at number two with 2 out of 3 wins and a net run rate of +0.965. UP Warriors have 1 win from 3 matches and are at the third position while Gujarat Giants are at the fourth position with one win from three matches. Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to taste victory in this competition.
