BCCI’s attempt to organize WPL to promote women’s cricket is a historic step. Talking about the first match, Mumbai Indians (MI) will be led by India women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur while Australian batswoman Beth Mooney will lead Gujarat Giants.
Teams like Delhi Capitals, UP Warriors, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Gujarat Giants will clash in 22 matches across 2 venues in Mumbai from March 4 to March 28 in the inaugural edition of WPL. The second match will be played between RCB and Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium on Sunday, March 5.
Earlier, a whopping Rs 59.50 crore was spent by five franchises in the WPL auction where India’s star batsman Smriti Mandhana became the costliest player in the auction held in Mumbai. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bought him for Rs 3.4 crore and made him the captain.
