IND Vs AUS 4th Test Match Ahmedabad Australia Captain Pat Cummins Back To Stay Steve Smith

New Delhi: Steve Smith will lead Australia in the fourth and final Test against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as regular skipper Pat Cummins is back home with his ailing mother. Smith led the Australian team in the absence of Cummins in Indore. Cummins returned home after the Delhi Test to be with his mother, who is in palliative care.
According to cricket.com.au, Cummins will remain in Sydney. The final Test will be followed by three ODIs and a decision on Cummins’ participation in those games will be taken later, as reported by PTI.
Under Smith’s captaincy, Australia registered a nine-wicket win over the hosts in Indore last week. India lead the series 2-1 and need to win the final Test to qualify for the World Test Championship final. Australia secured their qualification for the WTC summit in London in June with the win in Indore. The website also reported that Nathan Ellis has replaced the injured Jhye Richardson in Australia’s squad for the ODIs starting on March 17.
Australia have been the dominant side in the current World Test Championship cycle, winning 11 out of 18 fixtures. Currently top of the standings with 68.52 per cent of their potential WTC points, Australia will remain in first place regardless of the remaining results in the event.
