Jaswin Aldrin broke the national record of men’s long jump by jumping 8.42 meters, video viral

Jesvin Aldrin of Tamil Nadu on Thursday created a new national record in men’s long jump. The youngster broke Murali Sreeshankar’s previous record of 8.36m with a jump of 8.42m in his third attempt. His effort came at the 2nd Indian Open Jump Competition at the Inspire Institute of Sport in Bellary, Karnataka, where he etched his name in the history books.

The feat is all the more significant as Jeswin’s previous personal best was 8.26m which he achieved during the Federation Cup in Thenhipalem in 2020. Even though he also had a jump of 8.37m in the same tournament, it was a wind-assisted effort.

Such was the 21-year-old’s dominance in the competition that he remained the only long jumper participating in the event to cross the eight-metre mark. While he opened with a jump of 8.05m, his second jump was 8.26m. It was then that he broke the record in his third attempt. Muhammad Anis Yahiya finished second with a best jump of 7.85m.
