Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has achieved a unique feat in international cricket. In the ongoing first ODI between Bangladesh and Ireland, Shakib achieved the double of 7000 runs and 300 wickets in ODIs, becoming only the third cricketer to claim this distinction. Prior to Shakib, only two players have managed to break into this club in One Day Internationals – former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya and former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi.
The 35-year-old achieved the feat in the 20th over of Bangladesh’s innings in the ODI against Ireland. He took a single off Curtis Campher and joined the elite club as he completed his 7000th run. In the team’s last ODI against England in February, Shakib passed the 300-wicket mark in 50-over cricket when he got the wicket of Rehan Ahmed on his way to a four-wicket haul.

Shakib joined an elite club on that occasion as well, becoming only the third left-arm spinner after Jayasuriya and Daniel Vettori to complete 300 wickets in ODIs. One of the greatest match-winners the Bangla Tigers have ever produced, Shakib is the team’s highest wicket-taker in Tests and T20Is. In T20 cricket, the famous all-rounder is the fifth highest wicket-taker. Till date only two cricketers can claim 6000 runs, 400 wickets and 50 matches, Shakib is one of them along with Dwayne Bravo.
After his international commitments, Shakib will join Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023. Shakib was bought by the franchise in the IPL 2023 auction for Rs 1.5 crore. He has won two IPL titles with the same franchise in 2012 and 2014 and the star all-rounder will be hoping that he can be a part of another championship-winning team this year.
