Australia scored a total of 76 runs in less than 19 overs on the third day of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Indore. Travis Head outplayed the Indian spinners completely, hitting a four and a six off Ashwin and followed it up with a four against Jadeja.
However, Ashwin’s initial few overs were spectacular as the Kangaroos batsmen found it difficult to face him. Meanwhile, a serious sledging took place when Head, finding it difficult to read the balls, tried to sledge the Australian left-hander with India batsman Shreyas Iyer remarking, “A pair in Chandigarh, one in Haryana.” (One leg is in Chandigarh, one is in Haryana)β.

Chasing 76 for their first win in the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia lost just one wicket before pulling off a memorable victory under the captaincy of stand-in captain Steven Smith. By virtue of this win the visitors also qualified for the WTC Finals. Notably, this was the third Test match in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy which ended in just three days.
“What can I say about it, for a Test match to go on for five days guys have to play well. Games don’t go on for five days even outside India, yesterday the game in South Africa got over within three days and Australia also the first Test match,” Rohit said in the post-match conference.
βIt is about skill, if the pitches are helping the bowlers then the batsmen have to try and test their skills. It is not about making sure that if we are playing on flat pitches and The results are not coming. Even in the three-match series in Pakistan, people said that Test matches are very boring, so we are making it interesting for you guys.
India lead the four-match Test series 2-1 and are yet to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC). The fourth and final Test of the India vs Australia Test series will be played in Ahmedabad. India will have to beat Australia in the Ahmedabad Test to make it to the final of the WTC.
