While Peshawar managed to get the wicket of Guptill early after posting 240 in their innings, they were let down in the match as they were blown away by a Jason Roy masterclass, who scored 145 off 63 balls and chased down Helped the rescue team to reach. Target 10 balls to go and 8 wickets to go. There were fours and five sixes in the English innings.
Will Smead was the only other wicket for Quetta Gladiators as only 4 wickets fell in the match on the day.
Earlier, Peshawar captain Babar Azam also scored a brilliant century and was eventually dismissed for 115 off 65 balls. His innings was well supported by Saim Ayub’s 34-ball 74, but as it turned out his total of 240 was not enough.
Commentator Simon Doull also criticized Babar’s approach when he was nearing his hundred and alleged that the Peshawar captain was not putting his team in front of him but was playing to reach a hundred. As it turned out, it could have made a difference as the match looked to be over in 18.2 overs.
Meanwhile, the win has helped the Gladiators move to the fifth position in the table with three wins from 9 matches.
