
Controversy erupted in WPL 2023 ahead of the first match in the tournament’s history played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Giants (GG) on Saturday. Just a day ahead of the tournament’s opening, Gujarat Giants on Friday announced that West Indies power-hitter Deandra Dottin will be replaced by Australian star Kim Garth due to a ‘medical condition’.
A huge controversy erupted after Dottin, hours before the GG vs MI WPL 2023 match, revealed that he is absolutely fit. Dottin tweeted, “I really appreciate all the messages, but to be honest I am recovering from nothing but an anointing of the Holy Spirit.”
He replied to the ‘Get Well Soon’ message on Instagram and wrote: “Get Well Soon from what I ask.”
Gujarat Giants put an end to the controversy
Gujarat Giants on Sunday issued a statement saying that they were unable to get Diandra’s medical clearance before the required deadline for WPL 2023. However, the franchise did not specify his health issue.
“Diandra is a world-class player and an amazing signing for the franchise. Unfortunately, we were unable to obtain medical clearance before the scheduled deadline for this season.
