Nine policemen killed, 11 injured in suicide bombing in Pakistan’s Balochistan: Report

A suicide bomber rammed a motorcycle into a police truck in southwestern Pakistan on Monday, killing at least nine policemen and injuring several, news agencies reported. A police spokesman said the attack took place in Sibbi, a town some 160 km east of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province.

“The suicide bomber was on a motorcycle and hit the truck from behind,” senior police officer Abdul Hai Amir told AFP.

Kachi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mehmood Notzai said the injured were being taken to a nearby hospital, while bomb disposal squad and security personnel have reached the spot, Dawn reported. He said the police were returning from a week-long cattle show where they were providing security, reports AFP. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Ethnic Baloch militants have been fighting the government for decades, accusing it of exploiting Balochistan’s rich gas and mineral resources.
