Should US politicians over the age of 75 get a mental health test? Joe Biden’s wife says…

US First Lady Jill Biden responded to Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s proposal for a mandatory “mental fitness test” for politicians over the age of 75. Jill Biden said Nikki Haley’s proposal was “ridiculous”, CNN reported.

When Jill Biden was asked whether her husband Joe Biden, who will be 82 at his inauguration, would have a mental health test, she said, “We would never discuss something like that.”

Jill Biden said Joe Biden’s recent travel schedule shows his stamina. “How many 30-year-olds can travel to Poland, get on a train? Go nine more hours, go to Ukraine, meet President (Volodymyr) Zelensky? Jill Biden said.

Nikki Haley has previously called for mental health testing for future US presidential candidates. “We will have term limits for Congress and a mandatory mental competency test for politicians over the age of 75,” Nikki Haley said, according to news agency Reuters.

US Senator Bernie Sanders also rejected Nikki Haley’s proposal, saying it was “absurd” and ageist.

“We’re fighting racism, we’re fighting sexism, we’re fighting homophobia, I think we should be fighting ageism as well. Trust people, look at people and say, you know, this person competent, this person is not competent. There are a lot of 40-year-olds out there who are not particularly competent,” Bernie Sanders said.
