Nepal has done Elected Ram Chandra Poudel was elected as its next president, defeating veteran politician Subhash Chandra Nembwang in Thursday’s presidential election. Podel, who will be the third President of the Himalayan country, secured 33,802 electoral votes, while Nembwang got 15,518 electoral votes, news agency ANI reported, citing the Election Commission of Nepal.
The 78-year-old will succeed Bidya Devi Bhandari as Nepal’s head of state. Dr Ram Baran Yadav was the inaugural holder of the office.

(1.) A leader of the Nepali Congress and also a Central Committee member, he is a noted writer who has published several books and is, therefore, the recipient of several literary awards.
(2.) Paudel is the former Speaker of the House of Representatives (House of Representatives), the lower house of the Parliament of Nepal. He has also served several terms as a Member of Parliament (MP).
(3.) At various points during his political career, the senior leader held important portfolios such as Deputy Prime Minister, Home Affairs Minister, etc.
(4.) In 1970, he completed his MA in Literature from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. He appeared for his exams while in custody as an anti-panchayat leader.
(5,) He comes from a farming family and was born in a remote village of Tanahun in western Nepal. He is the father of five children: four daughters and one son.
